Morning Fix and Gay Cupcakes

Nothing like a nice sloooooooow morning to wake up 3 timezones later than you're body is accustomed to, stroll down the street, watch people walking their dogs, drink some well-brewed joe and enjoy some gay cupcakes.

At Vérité, which is literally a couple blocks down the street from our digs, they specialize in coffee, cupcakes, and gay pride. Seriously, it's advertised all over the place, including signs, t-shirts, and stickers:
I don't know what exactly about the cupcakes we consumed makes them gay, but after recognizing their tempestuous plight and all the progress they've made to gain the attention and acceptance of other cupcakes, all I can say is "Yum!" As far as Sarah and I are concerned, they can serve openly in the armed forces and get married!

As for the people of Madrona (the neighborhood where we're staying), man are they nice! It seems a very slowed-down pace of life here, and everyone is so friendly, perhaps partially due to their high tolerance for caffeine. And the dogs... the dogs are so... well-behaved!
The dog behind me in this picture is one of two who waited patiently and faithfully for their human counterparts to order their hot beverage and delectable baked goods. No barking, no wandering, no leash; just calmly waiting for the morning walk to resume. Here is the other:

Admittedly, it's quite possible this dog seemed so obedient simply because he couldn't see where the hell he was. Anyhow, it got me thinking about our three little feline terrors at home and how their names and the word "obedient" haven't ever appeared together. I wonder what mischief they've managed since we left them to fend for themselves. I hope Sevilla hasn't taken to defecating in non-designated areas. And I hope Chai hasn't opened up the lid and wriggled into the kitchen trashcan again. Ah well...

  1. Hooray for Gay Cupcakes! I would really like to know how they became gay. Were they baked/born like that? Do they have a special gene that makes them gay? These are the things I think about...
